Benefits

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation offers competitive salaries and exceptional benefits, which include:

Retirement

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) provides a variety of retirement programs and services, and administers other programs dedicated to protecting the financial security of state civil service employees. Additionally, the Department of Personnel Administration (DPA) administers the State’s Savings Plus Program (SPP), where employees can enroll in either a 401(k) or 457 tax-deferred compensation plan.

Health/Dental/Vision (Effective first day of the month following submission of enrollment forms)

Coverage is for employees and eligible dependents. Employees have 60 calendar days from the date of their initial appointment to enroll in a health plan and pre-paid dental plan. The State contributes to health and dental premiums; employee cost depends on which plans are chosen. Additionally, employees can enroll in the State-sponsored Vision Service Plan, which provides an eye exam and one pair of glasses once every calendar year. The State pays 100% of the premium; employees pay a $10 (eye exam) and $25 (materials) deductible.

Each employee is entitled to receive pay for 13 State holidays observed throughout the year. Additionally, one personal holiday credit is earned each fiscal year.

Employees receive leave credits for each qualifying pay period. The amount of credit (annual leave, or vacation and sick) is determined by years of service. Employees can be paid for accumulated annual leave and vacation credits upon permanent separation from State service.

Transit Subsidy

Employees may be eligible to receive a 75% discount on monthly transit passes and/or rideshare programs, up to $65 per month.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

State of California employees and eligible dependents have access to a statewide Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The State of California provides EAP as part of its commitment to employee health and well being. At no charge to you, EAP provides support and information during difficult times, as well as consultation on day-to-day concerns.
